Canada will extend its flight ban to India through September

Flights to and from India will be restricted for a further month. The restriction on direct flights between Canada and India will remain in place until September 21, 2021, as Transport Canada announced in a press release .

The suspension of all commercial and private passenger flights. Only cargo, medical or military aircraft can fly directly between the two countries. Travel from India to Canada is now restricted. Travelers from India, regardless of their immigration status, must complete an immigration examination in a third country within 72 hours of arriving in Canada . Non-Indian countries may need to follow their own procedures related to the coronavirus.

In April Canada banned direct flights to and from India. The reason for this was that a significant number of Indian passengers tested positive for COVID-19 . The government also banned flights from Pakistan, but it was lifted in June.

As schools and the border open, a flight restriction is issued .

With many institutions in Canada planning to resume classroom teaching this fall, this restriction could be challenging for overseas students from India . Although foreign students using COVID-19 preparation companies are not subject to travel restrictions, the ban may require additional travel preparations and expenses for students and their parents .

Indian students make up a significant percentage of the international students in Canada. In recent years, India has accounted for around 30% of the overseas students in Canada. Tourists from India and other regions of the world are expected to arrive in Canada on September 7th.

Individuals fully vaccinated with Astra Zeneca / COVISHIELD or any other vaccine approved in Canada will have these additional restrictions . Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin vaccine is not currently approved in Canada, meaning passengers who have taken the vaccine will be considered “unvaccinated” and will not be allowed to enter the country for non-vital reasons .

Passengers immune to the vaccination can still enter but must stay home and self-isolate . They are also required to provide evidence of COVID-19 upon arrival and on the eighth day of isolation . Vaccinated travelers are still subject to Indian flight bans, but quarantine and post-entry tests are not required . Before entering Canada, all vaccinated travelers, regardless of their country of origin, must be tested for COVID-19 and present a quarantine plan .
